06 Feb, 20245 minsAs National Apprenticeship Week unfolds, we proudly reflect on the ongoing success stories of our apprentices at Venn, both past and present.
The significance of apprenticeships for companies cannot be overstated, as they provide a platform for cultivating a committed and competent workforce, fostering diversity, inclusion and driving innovation through fresh perspectives and ideas. According to a report by the UK Government's Department for Education, 78% of employers reported increased productivity as a result of hiring apprentices. Additionally, apprenticeships contribute to reducing skills gaps within industries and provide companies with a cost-effective means of recruiting and training talented individuals.
This year, we are shining a spotlight on the experiences of Connor Burgess, Corinne Hooley, Ben Thomas, and Ellisia Lea, each offering unique perspectives on their apprenticeship paths.
Meet our Apprentices, past and present
Connor, who has now progressed to a Senior Business Development Executive, shares his perspective on the misconceptions surrounding apprenticeships. "There's an ugly stigma attached with apprenticeships when in reality, it broadened my perspective and provided me with the tools (and a shed load of acronyms) to be successful early on in my career. 3 years on from completing it and I'm still here; so, I must have done something right!’
SEO Strategist, Corinne, selected an apprenticeship as a gateway for a new professional chapter. In her words, "I chose to change career at 25, and doing an apprenticeship allowed me to make this a reality. I gained a qualification and relevant work experience while also receiving a salary, enabling me to have my own home and remain self-sufficient." Post-apprenticeship, Corinne has continued to flourish at Venn, she acknowledges, "Without Venn and the apprenticeship, I wouldn't have been able to make the change and be on the career path I'm currently on."
Similarly, now a Senior Content Executive, Ben reflects on the pivotal role an apprenticeship played in shaping his content career. "Enrolling in an apprenticeship with Venn gave me the opportunity to kickstart my career in content. Since completing the scheme in 2021, I’ve progressed from a digital apprentice to a senior content executive.".
Ellisia, our talented Copywriter and current apprentice, shares her journey from completing a degree to discovering the world of apprenticeships. "I completed my degree in 2022, and despite the broad knowledge it provided, I faced uncertainty regarding the specific direction it could lead me due to its specialised focus. Exploring apprenticeships became my solution to gain practical industry experience and keep learning, leading me to discover Venn.
In my current role at Venn, I've successfully blended the insights gained from my degree with a newfound understanding of my discipline. Venn's approach considers both my study commitments and work responsibilities, granting me the flexibility to tailor my schedule to my requirements.
Navigating this apprenticeship journey demands dedicated effort and strong organisational skills. However, having the support of a committed employer and a company that encourages my growth significantly eases the process. I am thoroughly enjoying my time as an apprentice and eagerly anticipate the further expansion of my knowledge."
